DOORNET EchoRoster: THE BACKBONE CONFERENCES
Revision 2.80 - 8/14/92
Tales from [The Deviant's Palace]
1. The Metro-Magazine online magazine DOOR 0.03 has already been released
via DOORDIST. If you have not received a copy via DOORDIST, make arrange-
ments to get the program from your NEC, a REC, or the ZEC Server. The
program (MMAG003.ZIP) is available for File Request from the ZEC Server.
2. The following echo has been removed from the ZEC Server, by request of
the DOOR author:
WOODYWARE
3. The following echo has changed its focus to allow for general access:
D_DEVELOP
Check the conference's profile for details.
4. The following echo has been added, by consensus of the Conference
Admissions Council:
D_INTERBBS
Check the conference's profile for details.
5. The D_Q&A conference has a new moderator: Jerry Kemp, 75:75/2. He will
officiate the conference until the return of Kevin Higgins, 75:7719/1.
6. Here is my set of guidelines for the removal of an echo:
a. Sysops (RECs, NECs, or connected nodes) send notes to me
that an echo is getting very little (less than 4 msgs/month)
or no mail traffic. Or they state that the echo is merely a
duplication of another echo in terms of message content.
b. I take a look at that echo and confirm that there is no mail
traffic onto the ZEC Server for that echo, or that there is a
duplication in effect.
c. I issue a notice that the echo in question is to be removed, with
a deadline for the actual removal from the ZEC Server. If nothing
appears in the echo to alter its status in a significant manner
before the deadline, the echo is removed.
There are always bound to be exceptions to these general guidelines, like
echos which are insufficient to deal with a certain subject matter, or
voluntary withdrawal of an echo from the backbone. These will be dealt
with on a case-by-case basis.
7. We need moderators for the following echos:
D_FILES
D_INTERBBS
PONYWARE
If interested, contact the ZEC immediately!
Nomenclature and Diagnostics
The DOORNET.NA file is usually distributed in a .ZIP archive with the
following syntax: EROSTER.mdd, where the "m" is a hexadecimal specifier from
1 to C that designates the month in which the EchoRoster has been released,
and the "dd" is a decimal specifier from 01 to 31 that designates the day in
which the EchoRoster has been released. This method of naming the EchoRoster
archive makes it very easy for a sysop to determine which EchoRoster is the
most recent in a certain year. Note that there is a rollover phenomenon at
the beginning of each year. We recommend that older EchoRosters be deleted
in favor of new ones.

This is a conference for the discussion of adventure-related DOORs in
general and any adventure DOORs in particular which are not currently
covered in a specific support conference. Also, it is an excellent location
for new adventure DOOR products to be announced. Crossposting between this
conference and any support echos which offer adventure DOORs is allowed and
even highly recommended to expand coverage. However, excessive crossposting
and announcements (ie. announcing the same DOOR version more than once a week
(or even more than once every two weeks)) is greatly frowned upon.
Suggested game genres include (but are not limited to):
Bizarre twistings of imagination
Cyberpunk
General fantasy
General high adventure
General science fantasy
General science fiction
High fantasy and Arthurian tales
Horror and horror-adventures, including Lovecraftian themes

[1991-1992 ISA Award for Best Mail Conference for Specificity and Content]
This is the official DevPal systems operations news conference. In it are
reports of activities related to connectivity of DevPal with other systems
and events occurring within DevPal, as well as occasional light (but not
prolonged) banter between sysops and/or users. Although not heavily policed
by its moderator, mature restraint on the part of all participants is the
general rule, and any violations of such responsibility is grounds for
permanent and irrevocable denial of access to this conference.
This is an Optional Echo for REC's because of the specific nature of this
conference. However, because virtually all of the contents of this award-
winning echo are germaine to the proper functioning and improvement of a
well-maintained BBS or metronet system, it is a preferred asset on many
systems.

- A.R. 75:75/0
NOTE: This was initially included in the EchoRoster as "BANZAI". Also, this
is an Optional Echo for REC's because it is also relayed through the FN
backbone. If costs are prohibitive for carrying this echo via DoorNet, then
an alternate means of carrying is allowed by the DoorNet ZEC. However, any
restrictions from the alternate mailnet MUST be observed. It is probably
easier to carry the echo from the DoorNet route, as a result.
